The Loss
Öis earned only one point from the home match against bottom-placed Halmstads BK. The game was played at Gamla Ullevi and finished 1-0 to Halmstad. After the final whistle, coach Andreas Holmberg walked to the corner of the long side where upset supporters were waiting.
Coach’s Reaction
- They were frustrated. We talked earlier in the week about expectations, and people expect us to take three points today. That leads to frustration and disappointment - I fully understand that. We feel the same, says the Öis coach.
Holmberg says supporters wondered "how the hell can we look like this in this match?" He points out that the team has many counter-attack opportunities but fails to create goal chances.
- We become a bit passive after our 1-0 goal. We have a hell of a lot of counter-attack opportunities where we have four against three and three against two, but we’re not skilled enough to create goal chances. We can’t be satisfied with how little we get out of our counter-play, he says.
Midfielder Mikael Dyrestam expresses understanding of the fans’ frustration.
- It’s clear that they want us to stay in the game and that’s our goal too, so I understand the frustration. Halmstad, who are last, at home… it’s clear we should try to win three points. I don’t know why we perform better against teams above us than against bottom teams. We need to be more decisive in these matches, he says.
Future Plans
Despite the tight situation, Holmberg is convinced that Öis has what it takes to reverse the trend. He stresses that the style cannot be too safe.
- The clear thing is that we can’t slow ourselves down from this position; we need to accelerate. God, it’s clear we have the capacity, says he.
Holmberg ends by reminding that the team must increase pressure in future matches to achieve its goals.
