Halmstads BK have completed the signing of Japanese midfield prospect Maru Miyagi. The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract but will not be eligible to make his debut until next season due to delayed paperwork.
The club, sitting 16th in Allsvenskan with 14 points from 22 games, view the acquisition as a long-term investment. Manager Stuart Baxter confirmed the deal to Hallandsposten. "He signed quite late for us and the papers were sent back from the Japanese association because he had signed a document for a division 2 club and they needed to give their approval," Baxter said.
The process took too long and the Swedish transfer window closed before everything was finalised. This means Miyagi, who joins from AIE International High School in Japan, must wait until the next registration period. Baxter believes it is a missed opportunity. "It would have been interesting to have him on the bench to throw into some games and challenge with his speed," he noted.
The signing comes as the team shows signs of improvement with two consecutive home wins, most recently 2-1 against AIK. Their immediate focus is a tough away fixture against fourth-placed IF Elfsborg on October 11th. Fans can track the team's upcoming fixtures and current standings. Maru Miyagi's first possible appearance for Halmstads BK will therefore be during the 2027 pre-season.
